Find Out More About Chiropractic and Sports Injury

Chiropractic may help in many cases of sporting injury. Sports chiropractic focuses on the management, rehabilitation and optimal performance of the neuromusculoskeletal system. By removing interference to the nervous system, relaxing muscles and assisting in maintaining a neutral spinal alignment, your body can perform better at your favourite sport.

Common Injuries Chiro May Help

Common sporting injuries that chiropractic may help include:

  • Tennis elbow
  • Golfer's elbow
  • Runner's knee
  • Flat feet and foot pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Strained muscles and sprained ligaments
  • Nerve entrapments (carpal tunnel, sciatica)

Almost all professional sporting teams have chiropractors and physiotherapists on hand to assist their players during training and competition.

Sports Chiropractic Treatment

There are many different ways a sports chiropractor helps to address injury. Treatment is usually multi-modal and includes one or more of the following:

  • Chiropractic adjustments or mobilisation
  • Soft tissue therapies
  • Electrotherapy
  • Rehabilitation and other movement/exercise therapies
  • Nutritional advice
  • Muscle strapping and bracing

Benefits of Chiropractic for Sports Injury

  • Prevents injury in the first place
  • Improves biomechanics and performance
  • Helps you to recovery faster from injury, meaning you'll be back to your favourite sport in less time
  • Improves your overall posture, which in turns allows your body to function more optimally and with less 'friction'

Injuries of all kinds including acute and chronic injury often benefit from an integrated approach to care. All of the above treatment options help to increase efficiency in neuromusculoskeletal functioning. This in turn boosts athletic performance.

Chiropractic works to improve overall performance and function of your body, thereby allowing you to enjoy your favourite sporting activity. Our team have specific training in treating and working with a range of sports injury.

A Functional Approach

Athletes and competitive sporting clubs simply can’t afford to put up with injury. An injury at a crucial time in the season may mean the difference between winning and losing a game, semi-final or worse still, the season!

Some persistent sports injuries need that extra bit of love and attention. Even with great chiropractic adjusting and assessment, many of our athletes require further care. That’s why we utilise a functional approach: active care combined with adjusting and soft-tissue work.

We look at the interrelationship between system and structure. This includes soft tissues, joints and how the nervous system controls movement patterns. We take a whole of body approach, rather than just focusing on one area or a single pathology.

Sports Chiropractic In The Media

April 13 2019

Headline: Masters 2019: Aussies Adam Scott and Jason Day in five-way tie for first place, Tiger Woods on the prowl

Jason Day relied on his chiropractor to help him manage an injury so that he could play the next day. Day came out firing with a five-under-par 67 which rocketed him to seven under.

“Jason Day said he had his chiropractor, Canadian Dr Stuart Love, worked tirelessly on his back on Thursday night and Friday morning to get Day ready to play through the injury. It worked wonders as he appeared to be in considerably less pain as he put together a round that was nearly flawless.

The 31-year-old birdied all four par 5s while picking up another two - at the par-4 fifth and par-3 16th.”
