Back Pain Treatment and Chiropractic
Chiropractic and Back Pain
Find out how chiropractors help with lower back pain.
Back pain is unfortunately all too common in today’s society. 80% of the population will experience back pain during life (NIH). This is the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed work days. Right across Sydney and Bankstown there are people, just like you, looking for answers to their back pain.
Many studies have concluded that manual therapies commonly used by chiropractors are generally effective for the treatment of lower back pain (Rubinstein). If you’re looking for relief from back pain, please read on.
On this page we cover common causes of back pain, health problems associated with untreated back pain and treatment options for many cases of back pain.
Back pain can be extremely debilitating, often immobilising sufferers. Many people put off having their back pain treated in the hope of it going away. Unless you address the underlying cause, in many cases back pain will come back as a major health crisis later in life.
Common Causes of Back Pain
There are many causes of back pain. Here are the most common that we see:
- Poor posture
- Incorrect seating and poor office ergonomics
- Ligament injury
- Incorrect lifting and manual handling
- Lack of exercise
- Disc injury
- Muscle tension
What happens if I let my back pain go untreated?
All too often we see people who have let their back pain go untreated for far too long. If you’re in pain, it’s your body telling you something is wrong. Pain is like nature’s fire alarm – you should take action when the alarm is on. If back pain is left untreated (and the cause remains), in many cases acute back pain becomes chronic back pain and can set up other health problems. Other health issues related to chronic back pain include:
- Ongoing pain
- Reduced mobility
- Nerve interference and reduction in nerve function
- Reproductive issues
- Irritability and mood swings
- Reduced performance both physically and mentally
Back Pain Treatment and Chiropractic
Specific physical therapy programs (including chiropractic) strengthen core muscle groups that support the low back, improve mobility and flexibility, and promote proper posture. Chiropractic adjustments increase flexibility, improve joint range of motion and encourage more movement along the spine.
The goal is to restore the spine to a more natural alignment, remove and reduce irritation to the nervous system and to improve spinal and hip biomechanics and posture. Here at The Back Clinic, we have developed a unique system providing cost effective sessions where our qualified chiropractors will make adjustments, specifically targeting your back pain trouble spots.
