Do Chiropractors Bulk Bill?
We are often asked — do chiropractors bulk bill? The answer is yes, but with some important detail worth understanding.
At The Back Clinic, we bulk bill in two specific situations:
1. Diagnostic X-rays
If X-rays are clinically required during your care, we will bulk bill these through Medicare at no cost to you. Both our Bankstown and Rockdale clinics have on-site digital X-ray facilities — same day, no separate referral required.
2. GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) consultations
If your GP has prepared a GPCCMP, we can bulk bill eligible consultations under this plan.
For standard chiropractic consultations outside of these two situations, Medicare does not provide a rebate. Our standard treatment fee is $85.
Am I Eligible for Bulk Billed Chiropractic?
To be eligible for subsidised chiropractic visits through a GPCCMP, you must have a chronic health condition present for at least 6 months. Common conditions referred through this program include:
- Chronic lower back pain and neck pain
- Chronic headaches and migraines
- Postural conditions and spinal problems
- Osteoarthritis and degenerative joint conditions
- Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
- Chronic sporting and repetitive strain injuries
- Sciatica and chronic nerve-related musculoskeletal pain
Your care as part of a plan, may include ongoing care from a multidisciplinary team, including bulk billing for chiropractic.
What Do I Need to Do?
Visit your GP and discuss your condition. If eligible, your GP will prepare the GPCCMP and issue a referral letter. Bring it to your first appointment at The Back Clinic — we take care of the rest. Patients can choose any allied health practitioner.
How Many ‘Bulk Billed’ Visits Can I Use for Chiropractic?
Medicare subsidises up to 5 allied health visits per calendar year in total — shared across all allied health providers under your plan. The number allocated to chiropractic is determined by your GP.
Care Beyond Your Bulk Billed Visits
Many GPCCMP patients continue beyond their 5 subsidised visits — chronic conditions benefit from ongoing management, not just a short course of treatment. Care can continue at our clinic at normal treatment fees, with pre-paid membership options available at a discounted rate.
